I was at Brix Pizza on Woodruff Rd last week and saw a beer I'd not heard of called Old Chub. This was a very rich beer (a bit much for the heat to be honest but still flavorful and would have been just right if it were February!). It is a strong Scotch Ale with seven different malts to give it a complex and hearty flavor. At 8% ABV it has a kick but won't knock you out. There is a lightly smokey taste but not too strong like with some scotch ales. This beer out of Colorado was definitely worth the try and I hope it is still around come cooler weather when I can really enjoy it!

In this heat I am currently enjoying RJ Rockers Patriot Pale Ale - the crisp hoppy flavor is a perfect thirst quencher in this heat.
Last night I had my first Maredsous 8 Dubbel. This classic Belgian dubbel was an excellent complement to the pan seared tilapia over black and white rice with sautéed yellow and zucchini squash (prepared by my loving wife!). The lemon on the fish helped subdue the mild acidic flavor in the beer allowing the rich malt and hints of chocolate to come through perfectly.
